「一人の手」（One man’s hands）はアメリカのフォーク・シンガー、ピート・シーガーPete Seeger：1919-）の曲です。

オリジナルの歌詞はイギリスのアレックス・コンフォート（Alex Comfort：1920-2000）の詩にピート・シーガーが曲を付けました。
アレックス・コンフォートは「ジョイ・オブ・セックス」（The Joy of Sex）の著作で有名な医学博士で、1960年代の性革命を進めた人で、医学者の立場で、人間の古い慣習からの開放を試みました。その関心はアメリカの公民権運動などの人権擁護や社会正義にも向けられて、その想いでこの詩を作りました。
この歌詞は当時の社会改革や公民権運動の闘いを象徴しており、内容は少し過激でアナーキーとも言えるものですが、真に自由な社会の建設のために団結しようというものです。「tear a prison down」（＝刑務所を取り壊す）は当時の政治犯開放を歌詞にしたもので、フランス革命のバスティーユ牢獄の襲撃を連想させます。また「ban the atom bomb」（＝原子爆弾を禁止）も、当時の東西冷戦下のアメリカでは国家の方針に反するものでした。それ故にこの歌詞は力強くもあり危険な思想とも受け取られました。しかしこの歌詞には真実の強さがあり、新しい讃美歌ともなりました。
アレックス・コンフォートのオリジナルの歌詞が少し過激であったため、後にケビン ベッカー(Kevin Becker)が新しい詞を書きました。ケビン ベッカーの歌詞も自由と平和への団結について書かれたものですが、具体的な社会闘争の意味合いを避けたものになっています。
日本では本田路津子さん（ほんだ るつこ：1949-）がこの歌詞を訳されました。本田路津子さんはキリスト教徒で近年は讃美歌を歌っておられます。本田路津子さんの訳詞はケビン ベッカーの歌詞を元にしていますが、日本的な「助け合う気持ち」という意味を自らの信仰を元にして、純粋で真実の言葉で日本語の歌詞にしました。
